Deemed by Lonely Planet as one of the best travel destinations last 2014, it is a treehouse in Tranquil Resort that is located in the heart of the Kuppamudi Coffee Estate at Wayanad, India.
Though traveling to this place is quite daunting, the nearest airport being 130 kms away, the trip is quite worth it because staying at this treehouse not only provides guests a stunning panoramic view of a beautiful 400-acre plantation, but it also gives them a chance to be nearer to nature and experience a whole lot of delightful and relaxing activities like swimming, bird watching and hiking.
So for those who love to going with friends and family to exotic and unique locations, give Serenitree a try. It would truly make you question why you're still living on the ground and not up a tree.
Unlike Tranquil Resort's other treehouse, Tranquilitree, Serenitree can accomodate four people, making it perfect for families and a small group of friends. It has a large queen-sized bed, two day beds, and two bathrooms. In addition to those, it also has modern amenities that makes treehouse living a breeze such as a television set and a DVD player, a satellite receiver, a mini refrigerator, a tea/coffee maker, an electronic safe, and even a back-up generator. A stay at Serenitree will definitely be just as its name promises — peaceful and serene.
How to get there
Tranquil Resort and Tranquilitree can easily be reached by air, rail and road. It is located about 320 kms from Bangalore City, 120 kms from Mysore Ctiy, and 130 kms from Kozhikode City and its international airport. Visitors can begin their travel itinerary from either of these cities – whichever they prefer.
About the area
Sitting in the middle of the Kuppamudi Coffee Estate, Serenitree is part of the Tranquil Resort which has another treehouse and other cottages and rooms — all perfect for couples and families alike. There's a lot that can be done in the resort alone so it's impossible to get bored in such a place. You can take a walk in its marked trails, swim in the pool or hang about in the jacuzzi, get an authentic Kerala aryuvedic massage, or watch of any of 127 species of birds that can be found in the area.
The genesis of Tranquil was to offer discerning guests an opportunity to relive the life of yesterday’s planters, in the exclusivity of a private estate. Your hosts are Ajay & Nisha and their two daughters, Samara (13 years) – when visiting from boarding school & Zara (10 years). Ajay’s experience includes advertising and also 18 years of managing Tea & Coffee plantations. Tranquil’s uniqueness lies in the ambience created to make guests feel that they are at a home of a friend. To quote a guest’s comments in the visitors’ book – “it is rare to cross the border from seclusion to inclusion – you have achieved that with grace & style.”

Delightfully mellow and comfortable setting
The resort is smack in the middle of the family coffee plantation in a beautiful villa/home partway up the hill. Ajay and Nishi and their two delightful daughters could not have been more welcoming and charming. The resort is small, intimate, and so quiet and relaxing; the grounds are gorgeous, surrounded by tall trees filled with birds, monkeys, giant squirrels, and assorted other critters. Our room was just amazing- at least 3 times the size of a typical hotel room with a sitting area, his and hers bathrooms (!) and a walk-in closet. The room opened onto a beautiful raised "courtyard" patio with orchids and other plants overlooking the pool. The plantation has an extensive network of trails up the mountain which made for some great leisurely walks and plenty of good bird sightings. The food was delicious and varied- top notch Indian fare. If you are looking for a place to truly unplug, I've never been in such a delightfully mellow and comfortable setting.

The Tranquil Plantation was just that. A small boutique hotel rather than a homestay, the food - buffet style - was very good and we enjoyed eating communally. The place is set in a plantation and is therefore very quiet - just what we wanted. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the bathrooms were great with unlimited hot water - unusual for India. The pool area was clean uncrowded.
There were really good walks through the plantation and if you have the energy, the climb to the viewpoint - quite strenuous in the heat - rewards with an amazing view.
The tree houses looked wonderful but get booked well in advance although we had no complaints about our room. The dogs were also friendly and would often go with guests on walks.
The family and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I would thoroughly recommend this place.
We had booked the tree Villa and it didn't disappoint, with an enormous room with a king size super comfortable bed and two bathrooms, overlooking the forest!
Loved the facilities, met some lovely people, did one of the very well organised walks ( the cardiac one!)
Only disappointment was the food, which was adequate but not as good as we had been having up to then.
