How to get there

There are many ways to reach Lourie's Nest. And here are some instructions on how to get there:

BY CAR

Drive along the N2 highway from George to Knysna and about 5 kilometers after Sedgefield, look out for a sign that says “Teniqua Treetops”. Once there, turn left and continue towards Barrington. Just follow that road until you get to your destination.

BY COACH

Intercape offer a coach service from Cape Town to Sedgefield. The journey time is approximately 8 hours. Also, there is a Mini-Coach that travels from Cape Town and stops in Sedgefield.

BY AIR

There are numerous international flights into Cape Town. From Cape Town, there is a choice of internal services flying the short hop to George. Once there, you will just have to hire a car and head to the treehouse following the instructions above.

About the area

Lourie's Nest is nestled in probably one of the most amazing locations in the world. And though it is quite isolated, it is still quite near to some wondrous scenic and tourist spots that you can check out during your stay.

One of them is the Outeniqua Nature Reserve which lies in the middle of a high-rainfall and a dry region. Due to this, it is home to quite a number of species – plants like proteas and ericas, for instance; and animals such as klipspringers, grey rhebucks, leopards, and eagles – that makes the whole area an ideal place for exploration and sightseeing.

Another place of note is the Goukamma Nature Reserve that is a short drive from the treehouse. It consists of an area of about 2500 hectares with a 14-kilometer coastline and a 1.8-kilometer marine protected area. In here, you can go canoeing, swimming, hiking, and watch various wild animals ranging from vervet monkeys and fish eagles to dolphins and whales to penguins even!

Then there’s Knysna right smack in the middle of rainforests and the sea which offers a lot of activities and attractions catering to people of all ages like golfing, mountaineering, or paragliding. Also, there’s plenty of fine restaurants, taverns, pubs, and shops in the area too that anyone will find more than satisfactory.

Aside from those, you can also visit Sedgefield itself and browse through their Saturday Morning Market which showcases the talent of local crafters. You’ll definitely find a lot of goodies in there like unusual art pieces as well as some exceptionally delicious food.

Most definitely, staying at Lourie's Nest will be more than worth it with all the things you can do within and outside of it.

    Greet time in the treetops

We had a great time at Teniqua Treetops, a real getaway from it all in a tree!! The living accommodation blends a getaway without losing all of the luxury. We had a double bed with mosquito net (not that there were any around), a sunken bath and shower, a pretty much full kitchen and a fabulous deck with BBQ, all with a view across the top of the forest. There is also a pool, indoor games (Table Tennis etc) and fabulous walking paths down to rock pools and a river in the middle of the forest. A really great experience.

Pleasantly surprised by this treehouse rental

My son and I were pleasantly surprised by the cozyness of the venue and the stunning setting in the forest. The unit was comfortable and well equipped. The people are friendly and when our gas ran out, they were quick to respond and resolve. We loved every minute and will definitely go back!

    Amazing stop during roadtrip

The idea of tree houses caught our attention, but no pictures or reviews made justice to the grounds at Teniqua Treetops. Unfortunately we had only one night there. It's a place to be visited! Cozy villas, well equipped, beautiful set up, amazing location and breath taking views! There are many activities and you feel connected and closer to nature the moment you walk in there! Hope to be back one day for a longer stay!

    Loved this Treehouse!

we loved it at Teniqua Treetops, it was such an unusual experience. Taking a bath in the trees and not seeing another tree house or building felt very cool. There is everything you need in the kitchens etc and the owners were amazing, teaching us new facts about the forrests and the animals. Went on the hike through the hike on site, through the forest to the coke cola coloured pools....
