There are many ways to reach Greenbeard. And here are some instructions on how to get there:

BY CAR

Drive along the N2 highway from George to Knysna and about 5 kilometers after Sedgefield, look out for a sign that says “Teniqua Treetops”. Once there, turn left and continue towards Barrington. Just follow that road until you get to your destination.

BY COACH

Intercape offer a coach service from Cape Town to Sedgefield. The journey time is approximately 8 hours. Also, there is a Mini-Coach that travels from Cape Town and stops in Sedgefield.

BY AIR

There are numerous international flights into Cape Town. From Cape Town, there is a choice of internal services flying the short hop to George. Once there, you will just have to hire a car and head to the treehouse following the instructions above.

About the area

Greenbeard is nestled in most probably one of the most amazing locations in the world. And though it is quite isolated, it is still quite near to some wondrous scenic and tourist spots that you can check out during your stay.

One of them is the Outeniqua Nature Reserve which lies in the middle of a high-rainfall and a dry region. Due to this, it is home to quite a number of species – plants like proteas and ericas for instance; and animals such as klipspringers, grey rhebucks, leopards, and eagles – that makes the whole area an ideal place for exploration and sightseeing.

Another place of note is the Goukamma Nature Reserve that is a short drive from the treehouse. It consists of an area of about 2500 hectares with a 14-kilometer coastline and a 1.8-kilometer marine protected area. In here, you can go canoeing, swimming, hiking, and watch various wild animals ranging from vervet monkeys and fish eagles to dolphins and whales to penguins even!

Then there’s Knysna right smack in the middle of rainforests and the sea which offers a lot of activities and attractions catering to people of all ages like golfing, mountaineering, or paragliding. Also, there’s plenty of fine restaurants, taverns, pubs and shops in the area too that anyone will find more than satisfactory.

Aside from those, you can also visit Sedgefield itself and browse through their Saturday Morning Market which showcases the talent of local crafters. You’ll definitely find a lot of goodies in there like unusual art pieces as well as some exceptionally delicious food.

Most definitely, staying at Greenbeard will be more than worth it with all the things you can do within and outside of it.

    A tree-house in the forest

We had a brilliant time in this wonderful tree house built in the forest up in the canopy without damaging any trees. It poured with rain which hammered down on the canvas roof, a delightful experience! The walks through the forest and down to the river were great, swimming in the peaty water. Perfect as long as you love nature and the great outdoors.
