Treehouse summary
Chole Mjini Tree houses are eco tourism at its best and one of the most unusual places to stay in Tanzania. The development of the tree houses was not focused on the idea of a hotel but of a unique jungle retreat appealing to a specific kind of person. If you appreciate returning to the simple luxuries and having your senses reawakened then this will be the place for you. You won’t find air conditioning or room service but you will find natural surroundings and some amazing tree houses.
The tree houses were all built by hand using traditional tools and materials sourced only from traders living on Chole. There are only 7 tree houses on the island and they have been carefully placed and designed to ensure that privacy is paramount. The tree houses are open to the elements with the king sized beds in the centre of the platform. They are reached by sandy pathways that lead through the natural vegetation.
Treehouse description
All of the tree houses have views of the ocean and some have a second level to accommodate children. This tree house, Moja (one), is built on one level and accommodates two adults. It is built upon the canopy of a baobab tree and has a spacious deck that goes all the way around the tree. Fish Eagles and Kites often join guests and perch on the tree. There is a private bathing area built into the bamboo thicket below the house. There is an open-air shower with hot water and a compost toilet.
Many guests are drawn to the island for the diving and the snorkelling which are rated as some of the best in Sub-Saharan Africa. There is also a sand bank which appears for about six hours a day and is ideal for swimming.
