Treehouse summary
Saba, a big treehouse located on Chole Island in Tanzania, is a favorite haunt of adventurous souls — and rightfully so. Why? Well first off, it is completely devoid of modern-day technology such as phones, televisions, and the internet; and second, it is located amidst ancient ruins near the ocean. Therefore, not only does it offer awesome views unlike any other, but also access to many exciting activities such as sunset sailing, snorkeling, turtle hatching, and even whale shark watching!
Treehouse description
Big enough to accommodate two adults and two children, Saba is a beautifully-designed treehouse right on the beach. It has a sun deck facing the ocean, beds with scenic views of the outside, and an open-air but private bathroom. Finding another one quite like it would definitely be quite a task.
What makes this treehouse special is that it doesn't have electricity. Despite that, however, staying here isn't boring or tiresome at all. In fact, it is quite fun. Because without the distractions of modern-day technology, guests are able to enjoy the scenery, take part in awesome adventures, and get closer to nature.
Moreover, the whole place is run by friendly owners whose aim is to make sure their visitors happy and well-taken care of. And that they do. They serve delicious meals made from fresh catch and even accompany their guests to wherever they want to go. Without question, a stay here wouldn't just be interesting, but unforgettable as well — which is most probably the reason why people keep coming back for more.

How to get there
Reaching Saba is quite easy. All you have to do is take a plane from virtually anywhere in Tanzania to Mafia Island and drive to Utende where the boat to Chole Mjini is docked. There are regular flights and boats so you won’t have to worry. Note though that since Saba is located on an island that is in the middle of the Mafia Marine Park, you have to pay $10 per person upon entry.
About the area
Saba is in the heart of the Mafia Island Marine Park which has breathtaking reefs and dive sites, thus, SCUBA diving is an activity you could try out anytime you wish to. And since owners Jean and Anne are both PADI Dive Masters and biologists, they can tailor dives specifically for you or your group and personally introduce you to the wonders that the sea around Chole Mjini offers. Besides SCUBA diving, there are hosts of other things you could experience around here as well. You can go snorkeling and turtle hatching; watch and swim with whale sharks; sunbathe and have picnics on the sandbar; island hop and sail into the sunset; or visit the nearby Chole Village and Popo Park. It’s amazing how much you can do even when there’s no electricity, right?

Anne
Chole Mjini is a treehouse beach lodge tucked into the small island of Chole centred in the Mafia Island Marine Park Tanzania. Activities are marine based with options for snorkelling, diving, swimming, sailing, SUPs, picnics and walks. Lounging, eating, birdwatching, reading all take you away from the modern world and bring back nature to your soul.
